2018 Goodreads Reading Challenge

A few days ago, I decided to join the Goodreads 2018 reading challenge. Since one of my goals for the new year was to read more books, this challenge came at the right time. The challenge reminds me of the reading competitions we had in elementary school, where you pledged to read a certain amount of books for the school year, and if you reached your goal, you received a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut. Although a personal pan pizza does sound enticing, I find this challenge rather exciting. I absolutely love reading, and since I haven’t been able to do it as much due to my mom/wife life, I’m eager to make reading actual books a priority in my life. Our oldest son is really starting to grasp the concept of “words meaning things,” (shout out to Crissle and The Read podcast) and we would like to set the example of our household being a place that reads.

To that point; I challenged myself to read 15 books for 2018. Hopefully, I can surpass that goal, but if my mom/wife life gets in the way, at least I tried right? I’m happy to say that I finished my first book within a couple of days. The first book I read is titled, Better off Wed by Laura Durham. I chose this book because have been in a Chick Lit/Crime mood lately, and it was a FREE download from Barnes and Noble for my Nook Color. Better off Wed is the first in the author’s Annabelle Archer Wedding Planner Mystery series. This book introduces us to Annabelle, a wedding planner based in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. The book centers on Annabelle, her assistant Kate and their catering partner Richard as they attempt to find out who is killing off their wedding guests.

This book was a super quick read, and it did give me a surprising plot twist at the end. If you are looking for something to read while on vacation, or need something to read that is fun and cute, I’d definitely recommend it. I’ll probably read the rest of the books in the series because the characters are lovable and relatable. Now that I mention it, the book and the characters remind me of an episode of Will & Grace (1998, not 2017). Anywho, I liked it, and I look forward to completing my challenge!
