February 2020 in Review

Normally, around this time there would be a 20 questions post featuring the latest queries in pop culture. I think I’m going to let that series rest for a while and replace it with a different type of monthly recap. A lot of things happened this past month. Here are a few highlights:

On February 2nd, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 31-20 to win Superbowl LIV. The Chief’s first Super Bowl win since 1920.

On February 5th, the 45th President of The United States of America was acquitted on both articles of impeachment – abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. 45 was impeached by the House, but acquitted by the Senate. PLEASE VOTE.

The gift that keeps on giving known as the Coronavirus claimed its first American citizen victim on February 8th. The global death toll is now 3,000.

The lives of NBA legend and future Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna were honored at the Staples Center on February 24th, one month after their untimely and tragic death. The date (2/24/20) represents Gianna’s jersey number (2), Kobe’s jersey number (24), and the length of Kobe’s career in the NBA (20).

Katherine Johnson, one of the first African-American women to work as a NASA scientist died on February 24th.

Trader Joe’s founder Joe Coulombe died on February 28th. Our two-buck Chuck, orange chicken, and cookie butter cookies will never taste the same.

Rest in Peace to Ja’Net DuBois, B. Smith, Pop Smoke, and Esther Scott.
