Que Será, Será

“My heart is at ease knowing that what was meant for me will never miss me, and that what misses me was never meant for me.”

Rapper J. Cole posted this quote on Twitter after his fans tried to start an outrage on social media when he wasn’t nominated for a Grammy Award. He quickly shut it down by posting this quote by Imam Al-Shafi’i. This quote resonated with me and brought me peace because I was recently passed up for a job opportunity. It was just a lateral move in my department, but the position would have allowed for more creativity and writing in addition to my daily tasks. Since I was an internal applicant, I just knew I was a shoo-in. Nope. Not this time. The position was actually given to another internal applicant, and I couldn’t help but wonder, “why not me?” I ran my own receipts in my head, knowing how (over) qualified I was for the position, but still wondering why I wasn’t chosen.

A few days later, I just accepted the fact that it wasn’t meant for me and moved on. I thanked God for the amazing job he has already blessed me with and stood firm knowing that God blocked that blessing for a reason.

After I saw J. Cole’s quote, I felt more at ease. It also reminded me of something Cedric the Entertainer said during an interview with the Breakfast Club. He said, “You can’t want another man’s blessing because you don’t know their burden.”

The older I get, the more at ease I am with God's plan for my life.
